DIVISION OF DOMESTIC TRADE
INTRODUCTION
The Domestic Trade (Domestic Trade Division) involved in the policies and strategies related to distributive trade in the country. This division also strives to improve ethical business practices and competitive for the benefit of users.
OBJECTIVES
- Encourage the development of commercial distribution;
- Improve safety in the petroleum industry;
- Encourage the development and the direct selling industry;
- Create price stability and supply of essential goods;
- Encourage the use of e-commerce in the sector;
- Promote the development and advancement of the optical disc;
- Encourage the development and downstream petroleum industry.
FUNCTION
- Regulate foreign participation in the sector in accordance with the stipulations in the "Guidelines on Foreign Participation in the Distributive Trade (December 2004)";
- Manage the production of direct selling license in accordance with the provisions under the Direct Sales Act 1993;
- Regulate the prices of essential goods in accordance with the provisions of the Price Control Act 1946;
- Monitor the supply of controlled goods in accordance with the provisions of the Supply Control Act 1961;
- To control the optical disc industry in accordance with the provisions of the Optical Discs Act 2000;
- Monitor and increase safety awareness on the petroleum industry under the Petroleum (Safety Measures) Act 1984 and the Regulations thereunder;
- Managing applications for oil exploration activities under the Exclusive Economic Zone Act 1984 [Section 21 (1) and 22];
- Monitor the marketing and distribution of petroleum products in the downstream sector through the issuance of PDA in accordance with the requirements of Section 6 (3) of the Petroleum Development Act 1974;
- Operating license application of weights and measures in accordance with the Weights and Measures Act 1972;
- Operating license application under the Supply Control Act 1961;
- Overseeing of subsidized diesel to the land transport sector and the transportation sectors in the rivers of Sarawak and Sabah;
- Regulate and promote the use of e-commerce;
- Conduct price analysis, cost analysis and control of the production of goods controlled under the Price Control Act 1946 and Control of Supplies Act 1961.
