Background
The establishment of
- Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs was established in October 27, 1990.
- The goal of the establishment of the Ministry is to promote the development of domestic trade ethically and protect consumer interests.
- The role and functions of the Ministry was expanded in 2009 to include the franchise sector and cooperatives.
Function ministry

- Determine and monitor the prices of essential goods;
- Licensing the sale and distribution of such items;
- Licensing the sale and distribution of petroleum products and petrochemicals;
- Coordinate policies, regulations and activities related to the safety of petroleum, petrochemical and gas;
- Direct selling business license;
- Implementing regulation of weights and measures;
- Coordinating matter regarding corporations, companies and businesses related acts;
- Promote good corporate governance; and
- Administer and develop the system of intellectual property protection.
Consumerism
- Implement consumer education programs;
- Strengthen consumer awareness and consumer protection; and
- Encourage and assist the movement of consumerism.

VISION & MISSION In order to achieve developed nation status by 2020, Malaysia needs to create a vibrant domestic economy and the need for it to be supported by a strong user community. This is likely to be seen from three parties cooperation beyond all boundaries to the above, the Ministry has formulated the vision to ensure that the Ministry is directly between investors, traders and consumers.
